Vice Principal - Daryl George

Mrs. Daryl George

Dear Tenafly Middle School Community,

It is with heartfelt pride that I return to Tenafly Middle School as Vice Principal. Having first joined the TMS in 1995, I feel truly honored to be a part of a learning community where students, staff, and families come together with shared purpose and commitment.

Growing up, I was an active student. An athlete on the basketball court, soccer field, and the track, running many distances and competing in field events. Fun fact: I later discovered that I raced against Mrs. Paz when we were both in high school. These early experiences taught me the value of teamwork, effort, and perseverance, all lessons I carry with me. One belief I feel strongly about is that mistakes and failures are part of life, and often, our greatest teachers. What matters most is the learning that follows, and the effort we put into doing the right thing the next time. A book we read as a middle school community years ago, The Gift of Failure, by Jessica Lahey, is a great resource for parents and teachers. “How the best parents learn to let go so their children can succeed.” If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to check it out from the Tenafly library.

After graduating from Springfield College and teaching and coaching in Massachusetts for three years, I returned home to New Jersey. I began teaching physical education and family life at Tenafly Middle School. I coached a variety of sports at THS and TMS. Mrs. Paz and I started the TMS track and field team! I loved coming to school every day, challenging both students and myself. In 2007, I earned my master's degree in educational leadership from Fairleigh Dickinson University. I proudly served as Vice Principal of TMS for four years under the leadership of Mr. John Fabbo. In 2020, I went on to lead the J. Spencer Smith Elementary School as Principal during a pivotal time in education. After five fulfilling years at Smith, I’m excited to return to TMS and rejoin a team that supports students during some of the most formative years of their lives.

On a personal note, my husband and I are extremely proud of our two adult daughters, who continue to challenge themselves and learn every day. Watching them grow as professionals reinforces my belief in lifelong learning and the importance of resilience and self-discovery.

I look forward to partnering with our students, families, faculty, and staff to guide our learners through the exciting journey of middle school.

Let’s make today and every day amazing. Go Tigers!
